Christmas at the bottom of the world
Antarctica (2005)

In 2005 we took an expedition to Antarctica aboard a former Soviet “research” vessel. It is still, after all this time, my favorite trip. We embarked from Ushuaia, Argentina crossing the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. Half the boat was booked by a gay tour operator but strangely, the other half of the boat was never told. The crew were very nervous about having the “gays” aboard but as soon as the bar opened everything was fine. Indeed we are told that the trip became legendary in the annals of the company that operated the expedition. We liked it so much that we turned around and did a trip from Svalbard to Greenland on the same boat with many of the same crew the following summer. If you get a chance to do this drop everything and do it.
